Property minds.
Solar specialists.
One team.
Gridstone exists because homeowners and commercial property owners deserve better than a quote from a salesperson who won't be around in five years. We built the company we wished existed — and we run it accordingly.
Why Gridstone exists
When commercial property owners came to us looking for honest answers about solar, what they found was a market full of inflated quotes, loose fine print, and installers who disappeared after the last panel was bolted down.
We thought that was wrong. So we built a company around a different idea — the people who design your system should be the same people responsible for it ten years from now.
That principle hasn't changed. What has changed is that we now bring the same thinking to residential clients too. Homeowners deserve the same standard of honesty, structure, and accountability that we built for the commercial market.
Most solar quotes are written
by people who won't be there
when things go wrong.
That's true for homeowners and business owners alike. The solar market in South Africa is crowded with short-term thinking.
A homeowner gets three quotes. Each one looks different. None of them explain what happens when the inverter needs replacing in year 9, or what the servicing will cost in year 4, or why the savings in year 6 don't look like the savings in year 1.
A commercial property owner faces the same problem at a bigger scale — with the added complexity of lease agreements, tenant billing, municipal approvals, and a balance sheet that doesn't need another liability.
Gridstone's answer is the same in both cases. We fund the system, own it for 10 years, maintain it throughout, and hand it over when the contract ends. Your risk is zero. Your savings start immediately. And we're still around at year 10 because we have to be.
That's not a sales pitch. It's a structure. And it changes everything about the quality of the work we do.
Years in property law & commercial brokerage
Every contract is built by someone who has spent two decades structuring property and commercial agreements.
Years of solar engineering in the team
Our technical partners bring qualified engineering, international supply, and accredited installation — built before solar became a buzzword.
We live with our work
A 10-year operating contract means we can't cut corners and disappear. We're accountable for every system we install — for the full term.
Upfront cost on PPA and lease
For homes and businesses that don't want to tie up capital, we fund 100% of the system. You pay for power, not panels.
Two sides of the same business.
One accountable team.
Property Lawyer · Commercial Broker
I've spent more than 20 years in property law and commercial brokerage — structuring deals, reading contracts, and sitting across the table from people who needed straight answers, not sales pitches.
When solar started becoming a serious option for commercial property owners, I watched the market fill up with installers who understood panels but not property. The contracts were loose. The financial structures didn't fit the way property actually works. And there was nobody on the client's side who understood both worlds well enough to push back.
That gap is what Gridstone fills. Every deal we structure — the PPA, the lease, the way it sits with a bond, the tenant billing, the property transfer clause — I've worked through personally. Not a template. Not a call centre. A lawyer who has read the whole document and is comfortable signing it.
I also hold a role at Schroter Attorneys and as a property specialist at ALTO in George. That dual perspective — legal and commercial — is built into how Gridstone works. Our clients, whether they're homeowners or large commercial landlords, get the same rigour in the paperwork as they do in the engineering.
If you'd like a straight conversation about whether solar makes sense for your property, I'd be glad to take that call personally.
The Engineering & Installation Partners
Our two technical co-founders bring more than 20 years of combined experience in solar engineering, international equipment supply, and accredited installation. They also co-own Sub-Sahara Solar, a related hardware importer and supplier — which means Gridstone has direct access to quality equipment at landed cost, without the markups that inflate most installer quotes.
They prefer to stay out of the spotlight. The systems they build, and the way those systems keep performing year after year, do the talking for them.
- Qualified electrical engineering
- Direct international supply chain via Sub-Sahara Solar
- Accredited installation teams
- Live monitoring and maintenance infrastructure
- Residential and commercial system experience
Four things we won't
compromise on — for anyone.
These apply whether you're a homeowner with a R3 000 monthly bill or a commercial landlord with a portfolio of properties. The standard doesn't change.
You shouldn't have to become a solar expert to make a good decision.
Whether you're running a household or a business, our job is to understand your situation and make the right call on your behalf. We've spent decades learning this so you don't have to. Three quotes and a prayer is not a system — it's a gamble. We don't work that way.
The deal you sign is the deal you live with. It should be one you'd be proud of.
No hidden costs. No ratcheting fees. No clauses that only make sense when something goes wrong. Every figure is on the page before you sign. Every clause is plain English. We'd rather lose a slow deal than win a fast one that wasn't right for the client.
A 10-year contract means we live with our work. That's not a burden — it's the point.
We can't disappear after installation because we're still responsible for delivering power for the next decade. Skin in the game keeps people honest. It changes how we design, what equipment we specify, how we install, and how fast we respond when something needs attention.
Doing what you said you would is not special. It just feels that way.
We answer the phone. We show up on time. We don't dodge hard questions. We do what we committed to — for homeowners and commercial clients equally. None of that is extraordinary. It just seems rare enough that it's worth saying out loud. We aim to be the company people recommend to their friends, not the one they regret.

Working across
South Africa.
We're a small team in a regional town, doing serious work for homes and commercial properties nationwide. Being based outside the big metros keeps overheads lean — which means more value reaches your project.
Close by or far away — we make it work.
If you're in the Garden Route or Western Cape, we'll meet you face to face. If you're in Johannesburg, Durban, or anywhere else in South Africa, we run the process remotely and travel for the moments that matter.
Residential or commercial — the first step is the same. Send us your last three Eskom bills. We'll come back to you within one working day with an honest assessment of what solar can do for your property.
